Every Thursday we hear a sermon in the morning and then we all partake in something called ATL (Ask The Lord). The sermon this past Thursday was about hearing the voice of the Lord and how to decipher if the voice we are hearing is the Lord, our flesh, or the enemy. After the sermon, we prayed as a team and waited for the Lord to speak to us. He gave us all very different images and words. I heard the word “chickens”, my leader saw footprints, another girl saw a woman in a house making tortillas, and another girl saw a cowboy hat and heard “Texas”. After we prayed we walked 15 minutes into a small village called Los Aposentos. We stopped walking when we say a women in a house making tortillas. We talked to her for about 20 minutes with the help of our translator. She shared with us that all 13 of her family members lived in the same house. They were so generous and allowed us to try making tortillas with her. After we made tortillas we prayed with her and her two sisters. We kept walking down the same street that she lived on and I felt the urge to knock on these two brown double doors. Once we knocked, a woman answered the door and we had the opportunity to talk to her about her life and her church. We prayed over her and as we were praying, a man that lived across the street came out of his house to watch. We started to talk to the man and we found out that he was the woman’s brother. The first thing we noticed about him was his tattoo on his arm of a set of footprints. He was the most hospitable person I’ve ever met. He invited us on a tour of his property where he continuously picked us fruit to try. He walked us to a pond in his backyard and all I could focus on were all of the chickens running around. We ended up talking with this man for about 45 minutes. When he had finished the tour we prayed with him and he invited us to come back whenever we were in the area. On our walk back to the base I saw a man across the street wearing a cowboy hat. We crossed the road to talk to him and his daughter and he shared with us that he used to live in Texas. We had the opportunity to pray over him and he invited us to his house if we ever wanted to continue talking about Jesus. Although we didn’t see any crazy miracles happen or lead anyone to Jesus, we did get conformation from the Lord that the voice we are hearing is from him. As a team we have been struggling with deciphering if the voice we are hearing is from the Lord, so it was an amazing day of conformation for all of us. It inspired us all to continue seeking the voice of the Lord. He is always willing to talk to us if we are willing to listen.

  1. A supernatural sequence of four events and proof the Holy Spirt is in you all. You were all strong enough in your faith to expose your vulnerability to each other and say random things which you didn’t yet understand, which is impressive in itself. A terrific confidence boost in your spiritual walk to see how God knitted it all together for you. The more you’re obedient to the Holy Spirit the more He will give you to do.

But sometimes we are too quick to obey what we thought was the Holy Spirit. In this case don’t be slow to admit you got it wrong too, we all do. When that happens hold your hands up and say I missed God that time.

Remember, to God ASAP stands for
Always STOP And Pray about it.

  2. Rebecca… It’s exciting to see God using you and your fellow missionaries through your willingness to serve Him. He’s creating a priceless, living, testimony for His Glory!

Life lesson… I totally agree with John. If you’ll learn how that, if for some reason, we find ourselves ahead of God or we realize we may have missed Him in any way… refuse to allow the enemy to use ego, intimidation, embarrassment (any of those negative threats) to keep you from saying “I missed God.” He loves you to be real with Him and He know we’re human. After all, He created US??
