It blows my mind that the Savior of the world, the Messiah, the King of kings would get on his own two knees and wash my dirty feet. In John 13, Jesus washed the disciples’ feet before the Last Supper. While washing their feet, Jesus not only shows us what it means to serve, but He also shows us sacrificial love. He knows that He will soon be nailed to the cross, but He is more concerned in showing us His heart and setting an example for what it means to humbly serve. In this time period, it was the servant of the household’s job to wash the feet of the incoming guests, not the job of the utmost high. When Jesus started to wash their feet it showed how servant-hearted he truly was.

In John 13:14-15 Jesus says, “Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you should also wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.” Last night at our squad session, my team leader got on her own two knees and washed my feet. I did not feel worthy enough to get my feet washed by the woman leading me through the race. I realized that none of us are worthy enough to have our feet washed, but Jesus still stoops down to do it.

Once my leader finished drying off my feet I felt the spirit prompting me to wash hers too. While I prayed over her feet and washed them clean I felt so close to God. The fact that I got to wash the feet that will lead me through the next nine months was amazing to me. I was honored to get on my knees and wash her feet just as Jesus called us to do. Our clean feet will be the feet to bring the good news to all the nations.

After I dried her feet and hugged her I wanted to wash everyone’s feet. The joy I received from washing her feet made me want to run through training camp, kneeling before anyone and everyone who would allow me to wash their feet.

Jesus thank you for humbling me daily, thank you for leading by example, thank you for the sacrificial love you give me, thank you for blessing me with such a servant heart. I would wash your feet for eternity Jesus.
